Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Nominees for each category will be those who, through their work or skill have not only advanced their professional or organisation's reputation, but also that of their industry and South Australia as a whole. We seek to draw candidates for each category from both peer and public nominations.

Selection panels, represented by people with knowledge and expertise in the category areas, assess the nominations.

Nominees will be assessed on the following:

  • Personal, academic and professional achievements, particularly  those deemed to have been the most significant for 2009
  • Contribution in the relevant field
  • Demonstrated leadership, innovation and creativity
  • Community involvement
  • Level of achievement and sacrifices
  • Nature and length of involvement
  • Contribution to South Australia
  • Role model for South Australians.

Eligibility Criteria:

 

  • A nomination form must accompany all submissions. Nominations can also be submitted online on the SA Great website.
  • It is a requirement of these Awards that all nominees currently reside in South Australia, other than when their particular endeavour necessitates them to travel outside of the State. (They do not however, need to have been born in South Australia)
  • South Australian of the Year and Young South Australian of the Year nominees must be individuals
  • The Young South Australian of the Year must be 29 years or younger prior to close of nominations (Monday October 5 2009)
  • SA Great Award category nominees may be an individual, enterprise, team or organisation
  • A single nomination can be given for an Award category in addition to the South Australian of the Year or the Young South Australian of the Year
  • Nominations should address the assessment criteria. Relevant background on community involvement, career highlights, press clippings and associated material may accompany hard copy posted nominations. Photographs are encouraged for hard copy nominations where available
  • Where a person other than the nominee has submitted the nomination, the nominee may be contacted and asked to provide additional support documentation
  • The Selection Panel reserves the right to redirect the nomination to another category if it is considered more suitable
  • The Selection Panel, in consultation with the SA Great Board, will have the final decision and no correspondence will be entered into
  • All nomination applications, electronic or hard copy, will remain the property of SA Great
  • Nominations must be received before 5.00pm Monday 5 October 2009
  • Award winners agree to allow the use of their nomination information and images, and also to make themselves available without cost for publicity purposes as required prior to and after the Awards presentation
  • The SA Great Awards are presented in good faith based on public information available at the time of judging
  • Past winners are not eligible to receive the award in the same category within a 5-year period
  • Unsuccessful nominees may be re-nominated in subsequent years.

SA Great Award winners will receive:

  • The SA Great Category Award and certificate
  • Honorary membership of SA Great for 2010. It is anticipated that within each industry the category Award winners will be outstanding industry and community role models who SA Great will showcase and involve in its activities
  • Public recognition through promotion of their achievements in the SA Great program.
