Tenison Woods College Friends of Music Committee

The Tenison Woods College Friends of Music Committee has been in existence for nearly 2 years, and consists of community members, students, parents and teachers of the school. The committee is dedicated to advancing Tenison's music program and the development of music in the wider community. The committee is highly motivated and has had a very proactive year supporting and encouraging students in an array of musical events.

Framing Solutions

Framing Solutions is an established business partnership offering quality, customised picture framing solutions for a national clientele. Framing Solutions has grown from a home-based operation into a successful high profile business through hard work, creativity and forward planning. In the last 12 months, the business has completed extensions to their premises, created additional employment opportunities and established a “community gallery” space to promote local artists.

Australia Post Large Business Award

Teys Bros Naracoorte

Teys Bros Naracoorte is the largest Australian owned beef processor and exporter in the country, with its Naracoorte operations processing up to 550 cattle per day and employing around 280 local workers. In the last 12 months, the company has promoted business confidence in the region by completing a $25 million upgrade of the premises that has increased its productivity and enabled it to employ an extra 200 local workers.

Mount Gambier Christmas Parade

The Mount Gambier Christmas Parade is an iconic community and tourism event. It attracts a wide audience each year, with the 2008 parade drawing an estimated 20,000 spectators. Last year, the parade also celebrated its 50th year which is a testament to the community-based committee who manage it each year.

Westpac Community Individual Award

Brian Robert Page

Brian has shared a long association with the Limestone Coast as a volunteer at a community level, however the past 12 months has seen him heavily involved in promoting and securing philanthropic support to those who are socially disadvantaged in the region. Brian has also contributed to generating scholarships and a “back to school” assistance scheme for young people in the community.

Australian Kelp Products

Australian Kelp Products was a concept developed in 2003 by Bevan and Sue Mills. Australian Kelp Products is a specialist seaweed products company that values natural resources and the local coastal environment, and are guided by their obligations to harvest the seaweed in a sustainable manner. The company has recently undergone a significant upgrade of its production facility and has just launched its world-first 100% blended seaweed pellet for livestock purposes, as well as secure its first export to New Zealand.

Cape Jaffa Wines

Cape Jaffa Wines is the first certified biodynamic vineyard on the Limestone Coast and the largest in South Australia. Having undergone a greenhouse gas inventory in 2008, Cape Jaffa Wines has set up a donation program with Greening Australia to develop a native wood lot and seed orchard, which gives back to the local environment. Cape Jaffa Wines has recently released its first fully certified bio-dynamic wine range, ‘La Lune’, which also includes an Australian first 100% cotton twill weave label.

Limestone Coast Food Group

The Limestone Coast Food Group is a group of proactive and enthusiastic people who are involved in food related businesses in the Limestone Coast region. The group promotes local food produce at various events throughout the region and South Australia, as well as interstate. It encourages local restaurants and caterers to use local products and include regional flavours in their menus. A major project for the group was the launch of the “Limestone Coast Real Food Trail” in February 2009 that includes a promotional food trail consisting of 50 diverse local food providers and retailers.

Nippy’s Sport Award

Mid South East Football League

Known as the “Family League”, the Mid South East Football League comprises of nine clubs across the Limestone Coast. The league works closely with the Mid South East Netball Association to attract a combined total of 1300 participants every week. In recent years, the club has taken up the “Healthy Clubs Program” which is designed to improve the well being of the clubs and its members. Last year saw all clubs in the league take part in the program with healthy foods, alcohol free zones, improved communications and food safety trainings.

Adelaide Showground Youth Award

Grace Ploenges-Beltchev

Grace, aged 17, has been a member of the City of Mount Gambier Youth Advisory Committee for five years, giving up much of her personal time toward community projects. 2009 was the fourth year she has been selected to take part in the Youth Parliament Program by the Office for Youth. This year, Grace showed great determination, taking on the role of Deputy Leader of the Opposition of the Upper House. In 2008, Grace was also awarded Young Citizen of the Year. Grace is also a talented singer, performing at a variety of community and school events.
