BALCO looks to the future

SA Great member and leading hay exporter, Balco, is positioning itself for the future with the commissioning of a new processing line that will significantly improve its output efficiency and capabilities. The company has invested in a new state-of-the-art Canadian-built processing line which will increase total capacity from 14 tonnes per hour to 36 tonnes.

"KIDS GO FREE" WITH SEALINK

The SeaLink Travel Group is looking to boost family visits to Kangaroo Island through the spring months with the introduction of a "Kids Go Free" promotion.

Each adult pre-booking a return SeaLink ferry fare and a minimum of one night's accommodation or two selected Kangaroo Island activities can take up to two children free of charge.


A STRONG YEAR FOR THE FESTIVAL CENTRE

The Adelaide Festival Centre has announced a positive result for the 2007/2008 finacial year having had a year of investment and structural change.

The Adelaide Festival Centre embarked on a comprehensive revitalising and repositioning in late 2006 and this years results indicate a strong increase in audiences. 


BUSINESS CHAMPIONS

SA Great members The Proteus Leadership Centres were once again winners at the recent Small Business Champion Awards. The Proteus Leadership Centres were named Business Champions in the Education Services category and the CEO and founder of The Proteus Leadership Centres Mr Des Penny was named South Australia’s overall Small Business Champion Entrepreneur for 2008.
 
On November 1st Des and his team will travel to Sydney to represent South Australia in the National Small Business Champion Awards.


DREAMTIME WINS SMALL BUSINESS CHAMPION 'OSCAR'

‘Dreamtime’ is an indigenous–focused print and web design agency and subsidiary of SA Great member 7C Communications Group Pty Ltd.  The agency has just won the Small Business Champion Award SA for Business Services. 

Dreamtime, will now travel to Sydney at the end of the month to compete for the National Small Business Champion Award (Business Services).  The only national program of it’s kind to recognise achievements and honour great performance the awards have been dubbed the ‘Oscars’ for Australia’s small business sector.

ACTA INSURES AN INFLUX OF CONFERENCES

The month of September will see many conferences held in Adelaide says the Adelaide Convention Tourism Authority (ACTA).  Six of these conferences are a result of an ACTA bid win, accounting for 3,940 delegates, 11,872 bed nights and a subsequent economic impact of $3.6 million to the SA economy.


BUSINESS CONDITIONS REMAIN POSITIVE IN SA

SA Great member, National Australia Bank has reported that business conditions have softened for SA's small-to-medium enterproses but remain positive according to the latest quarterly survey. According to NAB the trading environment  in SA remained solid and at higher levels than the Australian average for SMEs.

SA Great media supporter Coast FM

Adelaide’s 88.7 Coast FM has recently been awarded the ‘Bilby’ for Best Produced Community Radio Commercial. The winning sponsorship commercial was produced for Woodville Vet “The Pet Doctor,” with a cat talking about how well they have looked after him. The Bilby Award is like the Oscar of the Community radio world here in South Australia. Congratulations!

Entertainment Centre upgrade

SA Great member The Adelaide Entertainment Centre is all set for a revamp with the State Government approving a $7 million package to upgrade the Centre’s foyer, backstage, parking and corporate facilities. 8000 new seats have also recently been installed after the news that last financial year the Entertainment Centre had 370,000 concert patrons through its doors, the highest crowd figures in the Centre’s 15 year history.

Hassell scoops landscape awards

SA Great member Hassell has scooped four awards at the recent Australian Institute of Landscape Architects 2007 State Awards. The architecture and design firm won the following categories:
• 2007 State Award for Landscape Architecture for the City of Salisbury City Landscape Plan.
• Award of Excellence for Planning in Landscape Architecture, for the City Landscape Plan.
• Merit Award, for Design in Landscape Architecture, for the South East Asian Rainforest Stage 2: Immersion at Adelaide Zoo.
• 2007 Future Leaders Award, was awarded to Landscape Architect Nick Pearson

SA Great’s 2006 Young South Australian of the Year, Nick Palousis was awarded the Eureka Prize for ‘young leaders in environmental issues and climate change’ at the recent Australian Museum’s Eureka Prizes for science. The prize is awarded to a young Australian aged 21-30 for scientific or technological leadership in responding to the challenges that threaten our environment and our climate. The prize is a $10,000 study tour to the UK...Congratulations!

SA Great members Piper Alderman have been voted best South Australian firm in the 2007 BRW St George Client Choice Awards. The awards commend professional services firms including lawyers, accountants, engineers and consultants and are voted by the clients.
